Powell River à-go-go” Kicks
Off

Drive
for Cleaner, Greener Transportation

Powell
River
, along with the rest of the world, faces
the twin challenges of global warming and exorbitant oil price increases and
coming shortages.  Most agree that we
need to reduce our dependence on oil and to cut back our greenhouse gas
emissions to meet those challenges.  But
what does that mean in day-to-day living?

V8A is a
community organization that was formed in response to these challenges, with a
focus on
Powell
River
’s unique situation and geographic
isolation.  V8A wants to bring these
lofty goals down to earth, so that
Powell River can actually be cleaner and greener.  And making transportation around our City and
Regional District more efficient is V8A’s first step in this campaign.

Powell River à-go-go” kicks off the campaign with an
evening of food, talk and concrete plans on Wednesday, March 26th, from
5:00 to 7:00 pm at the United Church Hall, 6932 Crofton.  After refreshments, participants will hear
about solutions in four possible areas: car/ride sharing, alternative fuels,
alternative vehicles, and public transportation.

Next, the group
will “vote with its feet” to choose the first solutions to work on and the next
steps in the drive to achieve cleaner and greener transportation choices to get
around Powell River.  People will leave
the meeting with clear tasks to do, if they choose, and a clear sense of the
next steps they and V8A will take toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
oil dependence in
Powell River.

All are welcome
to this event.  For more information
